Plumbing issues are common at homes and clogged drains are the most common plumbing problem faced by a home owner. But it is not that difficult to fix as it sounds. Below are some easy methods that you can try yourself before calling a professional plumber.

To start with, a good idea is to use a combination of baking soda and vinegar instead of a harsh liquid drain cleaner. If there is standing water in the sink try to remove as much of it as possible.

Then pour about 1/2 cup of baking soda into the drain followed by 1/2 cup of vinegar. When these two react together they will create a foaming action that will loosen many clogs.

If the above method does not work, try using a plunger. Before using a plunger make sure that the sink or the tub is filled with water as it works best with it. Also, do block the overflow opening of the sink otherwise your efforts would be wasted.

Finally if neither of these methods work you can try using a wire clothes hanger to break up the clog. Open up a hanger so you have a long straight wire and then bend the end to form a hook. Carefully run it down into the drain and turn it around a few times to try to catch the clog material.

If you feel you have caught something in the wire, pull it up with the hook. Run plenty of hot water to test if the drain is working fine or not. If not, try plunging it a few more times to unclog it completely.

If none of these methods do the job there are a few more things that you can do yourself, but they start to become more complicated and more risky. For example you can try using a plumbing auger. So, rather than running that risk it is often better to call in a professional plumber who knows exactly how to fix the problem.

Plumbing is an important part of your home and so it s very important to find the right plumber for your home. It can be a bit time consuming but will prove to be beneficial for you in the end. You can ask for references from friends and neighbors which will save your time. You can also do some amount of research on the in internet.
